Prof John Okhuoya is a renowned Professor of Mycology and Mushroom Science.

He is an International Scientist that is well published in his chosen area of research with vast administrative experience. He has served and infact led some teams of Accreditation to some Nigerian Universities under the National Universities Commission’s accreditation exercise and carried out some assignment for the Federal Ministry of Education.

He was the Chairman of the Committee set up by the founding father of the Benson Idahosa University, Archbishop B. A. Idahosa that planned the establishment of the University. His heart and soul is in the University. He is a sticker for excellence and details. He heads the Education arm of Church of God Mission International Incorporated.

He started his professional experience as a lecturer in the University of Benin in 1983 and became a Professor in the Department of Botany in 1995. He actively participated in the upgrading and designing of both the undergraduate and post graduate programmes in Mycology in that Department. Pioneered research in Mushroom Science and Aerobiology with emphasis on pollution in the Department. Supervised the first M. Sc/ M. Phil candidates in Mycology/Plant Pathology in the Department, participated actively in both students and staff seminars, and served in several panels of Postgraduate examination. He also served as a rapature during the National Workshop on fruit production in Nigeria held in Ibadan (1985). He has supervised many Masters and Ph. D students, attending series of conferences both within and outside the country and has over 35 publications. He is a recipient of numerous awards, Professor John Okhuoya carries an amiable portfolio to the corridors of Benson Idahosa University’s administration as its Vice President.

This former Head of Department (Botany, University of Benin), former Dean (Faculty of Science, University of Benin), Member of Senate (University of Benin), Representative of University of Benin Council on numerous boards and special committees, has served as Electoral Supervisor for ward 11 in Oredo local government area during the gubernatorial election in 1991.

Professor Okhuoya is the Resident Pastor of Church of God Mission Int’l Inc, faith Miracle Centre, Benin City and Coordinator of the Oral Roberts University (ORU) – Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA “African Christian School Annual Conference” since 1992.

Benson Idahosa University sure has an adorable icon in her Executive Vice President who serves as the President’s representative in the University’s Senate.
