ICAN Signs MOU with Benson Idahosa University

The Institute on Tuesday, October 27th 2009 signed a memorandum of Understanding with Benson Idahosa University (BIU), Benin. The memorandum of understanding specifies the department of accounting in the university would produce Accounting graduates out of ACA holders without first degrees but with adequate technical and theoretical knowledge of function in all areas of the economy.

The programme would run for a period of two (2) years or four semesters, either full or part-time while ICAN would give prescribed exemptions to Benson Idahosa University (BIU) pre-integrated curriculum graduates of Accounting wishing to become Chartered accountants.Speaking at the ceremony held in the premises of the university in Benin, the ICAN president, Chief (Mrs.) Elizabeth Adegbite noted that the dearth of Ph. D holders in the membership of the Institute made the council to take the path.

The Institute, she said, went into partnership to encourage members to go into the academia.She also noted that the memorandum of understanding would ensure that the Chartered Accountants produced have a brighter future because they would be able to into the public service, private sector, Academic and make Nigeria greater than it was. “We desire excellence in our profession”, she concluded. She later made a donation of books and Computers to the department of Accounting of the university.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Gideon E. D Omuta, in his welcome address noted that ICAN and Benson Idahosa University (BIU) have common grounds for raising generations of highly qualified accounting manpower who would sustain the banner of excellence in the country.The president also seized the opportunity to address the students of the accounting department.

She also entertained some questions which she responded accordingly.The memorandum of Understanding was signed on behalf of ICAN by the President and deputy Registrar, Mr. Olusoji Odukoya while the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Gideon Omuta and the School Registrar, Mr. Tony. M. E Dogun.
